The Cancer Imaging Program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in collaboration with the International Society for Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) will launch a grand challenge in segmentation of internal structures of the prostate gland based on magnetic resonance imaging data.  The overall goal of this challenge is to promote the development of robust open and closed source codes that can automatically identify the peripheral zone and the central gland from volumetric T2-weighted MR image sets.   Data for the prostate challenge will be provided by Boston University and Radboud University, Nijmegen Medical Centre (the Netherlands).  The collection, consisting of training and test data, will be hosted in a restricted access section of this website (http://cancerimagingarchive.net/)

After the announcement of the NCI-ISBI Challenge in late November 2012, interested contestants can access the first batch of data (containing training cases with annotation) granted six weeks prior to the ISBI meeting (planned for April 7-11; San Francisco, CA)
