Summary

The TCGA-LUAD data collection is part of a larger effort to enhance the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data set with characterized radiological images.  The Cancer Imaging Program (CIP) with the cooperation of several of the TCGA tissue-contributing institutions has archived a large portion of the radiological images of the genetically-analyzed Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cases.

Clinical, genetic, and pathology data resides in the TCGA data portal while the radiological data is stored on The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA).   The data utilizes the same TCGA patient identifiers in both repositories, allowing researchers to explore the correlations between tissue genotype and radiological phenotype. This Collection within TCIA is related to the LUAD disease type within TCGA.

We would like to acknowledge the individuals and institutions that have provided data for this collection:

  • Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO - Special thanks to Brad Albertina from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Department of Radiology and Mark Watson, MD, PhD from the Tissue Procurement and Multiplexed Gene Analysis Laboratories, Washington University School of Medicine.

Note: Per TCGA Guidelines, formal permission requests are still required for publications using TCGA-LUAD data. More info about TCGA Publication Policies can be found on the Data Usage Policies and Restrictions page.

CIP TCGA Radiology Initiative

The Cancer Imaging Program is supporting multiple projects within the academic community to encourage cross disciplinary research which utilizes the data provided in these resources.  Much more can be learned about this effort on the TCGA-LUAD Phenotype Research Group page.

Data Access

Imaging Data

You can view and download these images on The Cancer Imaging Archive by logging in to TCIA and selecting the TCGA-LUAD collection. A full listing of the available imaging studies/series for each patient can be found in this spreadsheet:TCGA-LUAD_series_descriptions.csv

NOTE: On 12/3/12 TCIA staff were alerted to the fact that the middle 2 digits in the patient identifiers of images were not consistent with those on the TCGA Data Portal.  E.g. patient TCGA-93-Z011 should have been TCGA-17-Z011. This was corrected and the data was re-posted on 12/5/12 so that all subjects now have 17 as intended.
